Royal Victorian General Officers Sword belonging to Prince Arthur. Arthur William Patrick Albert was Queen Victoria favourite son and became Duke of Connaught and Strathearn in 1874. He entered the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, in 1866 and did well in the army, becoming full general in 1893 and field marshal in 1902. He served in Egypt in 1882, commanding the 1st Guards Brigade at Tel el Kebir. The Sword Levee pattern with flat solid blade, etching includes monogram AWP below the coronet for a younger son and brother of a blood royal – Fairbains Crests – to the reverse is the royal garter with same crown above plus VR in a shield.
